Products and Services AlphaGraphics is a full service printer with some clear USPs, most notably their e-commerce and on-line ordering systems and ISO 9002 certification of their operating systems. According to the PIRA report referenced earlier, only 9% of corporations utilise e-commerce for print purchasing, with 46% considering changing methods and mechanisms for print purchases to take advantage of it in future. Print expenditure can be split into operational and marketing categories. The demand for operational print, such as letterheads, business cards, stationery, forms and so on, is expected to continue at the same rate. However procurement departments have recognised that the cost of ownership is unacceptably high, i.e., the transactional cost for each order is often greater than the product order value itself. Network average mix of sales The early mix of sales will be difficult to predict and it may be slightly different to the network average due to the lower volume we will experience at the outset. For example, the projections for electronic print are lower than the average in year one as these sales can take time to build. Key to our success will be ensuring the products suit our equipment profile and that any sublet work is market focused, possibly providing a future investment opportunity if the volume and frequency is sufficient. The demand for large format plan copying, for example, may be substantial given the extent of building projects in progress in Leeds city centre. However careful analysis of sublet work will provide the right answer over time. As a new business we will be able to apply for ISO 9002 registration after we have been trading for six months. During this time we will be operating the systems in support of our application, providing us with a clear differentiator over our competitors. Authorised equipment and assets The AlphaGraphics franchise operates to a strict set of network system standards that specify the minimum requirements for each print operation. This is designed to ensure that the global network is consistently able to satisfy the same business needs. The business franchise guidelines state that no additional equipment should be purchased, leased or rented without prior approval from the franchisor. This is designed to ensure that every franchisee completes an annual profit plan as part of their business development activity. Equipment by profit centre To properly provide design services all stores must be equipped to design and output spot and multi-colour artwork as a key part of being a full-service provider. A full-service design station comprises one Macintosh workstation and one Windows PC workstation, each with appropriate software (which is also listed in detail in the system standards). Electronic printing comprises two full service high-speed black and white digital printers and one self-service copy machine that could easily be operated by a customer with little or no assistance. A wide array of binding equipment is necessary to provide cutting, drilling, folding, stapling, padding, binding and shrink wrap services The management information system is based around PrintSmith, a strong multi-user system used for easy price maintenance, on-line accounts receivable, production scheduling and report writing. Other essential equipment includes a plain paper fax machine, a telephone system with at least five lines, an Ethernet network and fire safety equipment per local building regulations and standards. Financial needs A summary of the profit loss account for each of the first four years is shown below. Security The principals own their own properties but as they are jointly owned with respective spouses they are unable to offer these as security. Ancient Chinese four most useful contributions or inventions created were gun powder, the compass, paper making, and printing. These four inventions are very unique in their own way. I will explain why these four are the most useful inventions created by ancient Chinese. One of the few destructive inventions of ancient Chinese civilization was that of gunpowder. The discovery of gunpowder led to the invention of firearms and revolutionized battlefields in the Asian Continent. Chinese alchemists, whom were searching for an elixir of life, accidentally discovered the explosive property of gunpowder sometime around 9th century AD. By the end of the 10th century, Asian powers had introduced grenades, crude bombs and firearms onto battlefields. Use of cannons and bigger fire arms also became prevalent. (Yinke Deng, 2005) The compass was one of the most important technological developments in ancient China due to the fact that it promoted and aided exploration that was initiated by Chinese rulers. The development of the compass made China the first imperial power in the world. The Chinese empire was indeed termed as an imperial power until the end of monarchy in China and the royal place was also known as the Imperial Palace. The exact era or dynasty during which the Chinese invented the technology of paper manufacturing is uncertain. It is certain that the technology led to many more advancements as it facilitated scholars, philosophers and writers of Chinese civilization. Paper that was invented in ancient China was not only used as a medium of writing, but creative Chinese innovators also used it as a raw material for manufacturing bags as well as paper currency. Paper making can be traced down to the Han dynasty, which ruled from 202 BC to 220 AD, when court official Cai Lun set out to the task of making paper. He deployed mulberry, bast fibers, and waste material such as old rags and hemp waste. Yinke Deng, 2005) Lun also made use of fishing nets to bind the materials together. Some archaeological findings however, suggest that paper in ancient China may have been invented during the 8th century BC. The invention of printing is regarded as one of the most important inventions, due to the fact that it made books cheaper. Cheaper books ensured an educated society. Many dynasties of courtiers and scholars from a ncient China contributed to the development of the printing press. Printing technology started evolving sometime around 868 BC, with the printing of the first printed book titled The Diamond Sutra. The book was printed with the help of the wood block printing. It had become a very advanced technology by the end of the Song dynasty. Writer Shen Kuo, who was also a courtier of Songs, promoted the use of printing for the spread of knowledge. Bi Sheng, who was an artisan, invented the movable ceramic printing. Inventors like Hua Sui also attempted to invent the metal castings and rollers for movable printing. There are eight to ten useful inventions and contributions from the ancient Chinese that are still in use today. The ten ancient Chinese useful inventions or contributions are paper currency, row crops, deep drilling for gas, fireworks, gun powder, the flame thrower, the parachute, the wheel barrow, rudder, and the compass. Chinese inventions have contributed to mankind in many ways. Many of their discoveries start out in one form and can branch out to three or more end products. The four inventions or contributions from the ancient Chinese that have had the most impact on many countries and even changed the course of history to a certain extent were paper currency, gun powder, the parachute, and deep drilling for gas. I believe them to be the most ingenious and innovative of inventions. Paper currency changed the ways of handling money. The times of having to carry gold coins and precious metals to purchase goods and services were over. Before paper currency lugging gold and precious metals around was risky and hard to conceal. Paper currency is lightweight, discrete, and still exists in society today. As well as currency, the ways that gun powder has changed society are many. Gun powder has contributed to the gun, fireworks, and explosives of many types. The usage is wide ranged and without the use gun powder wars would have been a lot harder to win and a lot more primitive in style. It is hard to imagine the civil war without the use of musket guns and cannons. The invention of the parachute have also helped in many ways. Parachutes have saved many pilots’ lives. When an air plane fails in the sky or during a war when a plane is shot down, pilots can parachute to safety. Parachutes have facilitated the United States troops with fighting wars on enemy territories. Deep drilling for gas has helped many countries to better utilize their own resources. Deep drilling for gas has helped the United States in the fight to go green and help the environment. The deep drilling for gas technique has given many Americans jobs in the past and present, and it is responsible for a considerable amount of America’s income. The ancient Chinese have invented and contributed to the discovery of many things used in society today. The one invention I cannot live without is paper currency. Money is what makes the world go round. I use money every day for many different reasons. On a daily basis, I use money (paper currency) to purchase gas, lunch, and beverages. Similarities & Differences In German & English Jeremy Johnson September 26, 2000 Similarities and Differences All human communications involve language, and its use as such implies that there must be certain similarities. All languages have an alphabet, a lexicon, and a set of rules establishing how sentences are constructed. While there are differences in the alphabet, and lexicons of the various languages, the most important difference involving syntax are those found in the construction rules. English and German because of their shared root have many similarities, but through time they have developed substantial differences. The single most profound individual difference in German is the declension of case and gender. To decline case German changes the form of the noun and the corresponding pronoun to show the relationship the noun has to the verb. Das M?dchen i?t den Fisch The girl eats the fish The girl eats the fish Den Fisch i?t Das M?dchen The fish eats the girl The girl eats the fish Both ways of writing the sentence in German are and understandable. The determiner das declines M?dchen as the subject of the sentence while the determiner den declines Fisch as the direct object. In the English translations the meaning is derived by the word order, the first noun is the subject and the second is the direct object. In many cases the noun will change its form as well as the determiner, as with the noun der student, which becomes den studenten when it is used as the direct object. German also differs from English in that it declines gender with the determiner, and sometimes with the noun as in the following example: Wir suchen zu baldm?glichem Antritt eine freundliche Apothekerin (Vollzeit). The gender is shown within the determiner and the noun in the German sentence, while in the English sentence an additional word is required to convey female preference. The proceeding example also shows the declension of case in the last phrase in einem kleinen, freundlichen team. The phrase is in the dative case, which is indicated by the word einem, meaning it is the indirect object. A second difference between English and German lies in the use of the formal pronoun and verb form. The formal case is used to address those which one does not know well, or when one wants to be polite. Germans have the ability to conjugate their verbs as in the following example: Du hast - Familiar Sie Haben - Formal Old English used the pronoun you as the formal version of the verb, and the pronoun thou as the familiar pronoun as in: Thou hast Old English Familiar You have Current English Formal and Familiar The current English language has disposed of the familiar tense of addressing someone in the second person. Notice finally that the formal tense is also the plural in both languages. German and English share a striking similarity in how they deal with multiple negations. In the romance languages it is possible to use multiple negations such as in the following phrases in English and German: Not one person has not seen it. Kein Mensch nicht hat es gesehen. The example is not proper English although a similar phrase in French would be. The same phrase in German would also a violation of the languages grammar. The proper way to say the proceeding in English and German is Not one person has seen it Kein Mensch hat es gesehen English and German are odd amongst European languages in that they do not allow multiple negations within a single sentence. Englishs Germanic structural roots have more than likely given English its rules regarding negation. Although there are many similarities between the languages, the extensive use of declensions in German make it a much different language syntactically. Declensions allow German speakers to interchange the subject and direct object in sentences such as the one found in the first example.
